The Good News of the Resurrection

In Acts ch.2, Luke tells us that on the Day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter proclaimed the meaning of Jesus’ Resurrection that was foretold according to the Old Testament Scriptures.

He said in v.22-24 (ESV) “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know– this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.”

Then he quoted David’s words in Psalm 16:8-11 saying “David foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.”

This was good news because it meant the sacrifice for sin that Jesus said he would make, had been accepted by God and the promise fulfilled, that God would raise Him from the dead on the third day. That meant there was the possibility that Peter’s denial of Jesus, and indeed all of his sins indeed could be forgiven. It meant that Jesus was alive and that Peter could know his presence again. But what this also means is that it is possible for our sins to be forgiven and for us to experience His presence by faith and through the Holy Spirit, if we trust in Jesus’ sinless life, His sacrificial death, and His resurrection as the only thing that can make us acceptable before God. Do you believe this?
